DESIRE

Psalm 42:1—As a deer longs for flowing streams, so my soul longs for you, O God. {GWT}

How do I know when I am growing spiritually? One sure way to tell is to evaluate my desires. Jesus said "where your treasures are there your heart will be also." Treasures do not have to be tangible possessions. Our thoughts our often our treasures.

Where do your thoughts take you? What does your heart linger after in the palace of your mind? Stop dreaming of being noticed! Jesus loves you! You already possess a heavenly fan club. May your focus be on your loving Lord. Give up lusting over food—let your appetite be for God’s Word.

Desires—we are a people consumed with desires. Will you allow the Holy Spirit at this moment to bring before your inner eyes those desires that you battle on a daily, sometimes moment-by-moment basis. May I offer a word of encouragement. Strip your mind of those desires that pull you inward and instead seek God. Be a thirsty child who finds and drinks Living Water. The definition of joy is spiritual longing satisfied. May our joy be full because our cup is Jesus.

"I want, God knows I want, that Jesus Christ should do in me all He said He would do." How many of us "want" like that? God grant that this want may increase until it swamps every other desire of heart and life.—Oswald Chambers in My Utmost For His Highest
