Psalm 37:4—Delight yourself in the Lord and He will give you the desires of your heart.
Some adults love to sit in airports and people-watch. I prefer a playground or a setting with lots of kids. Children crack me up—mostly because they know how to live. Here’s a brief sampling from a recent party.
· Stephen (6), figured out how to get to the second notch on the white climbing rope hanging from our huge maple—a momentous achievement.
· Little Matthew discovered that grass clippings are a neat addition to the inside of the goldfish tank. I wonder what the fish were thinking?
· Katie let me know that she is three but last year she was two and she knows how to pump on the swingset. Man, can she fly high. How many 3-year olds can pump?!
· Honestly, what could be more fun than dropping an ice cube down your uncle’s shirt? When
· Who needs baseball scouts? If you ever want to assess future big leaguers give a boy a stick, blindfold him and watch him go after a piñata. Holy, moly, it’s a wonder there aren’t more emergency room victims from out-of-control bashers. And don’t think for a second, girls can’t swing hard.
If your life is like tofu maybe it’s time to wake up with a new attitude. Start with a spiritual breakfast. Read God’s word as if He actually wrote it to you--which He did! Pray with Jesus in the same room and praise Him for the joy of life. Need a reminder? Are you wearing clothes? Is there a solid roof over your head? Do you know how to read? Does someone love you? Can you regain that child-like perspective that claps for the rainbow as opposed to groaning over thunderclouds? Are there 10 things for which you can thank God?
Let’s get radical. When’s the last time you really let the ol’ belly rip with a deep chortle of pure delight? I double-dare you to just bust up laughing right now. Why? Because. Life became too somber when we chose to forget the Because.
"Delight yourself in the Lord and He will give you the desires of your heart." Are those the words of a sappy shepherd boy who didn’t know the meaning of a hard-drive failure? Or does the verse give us insight as to why God called David a man after His own heart? Is our Heavenly Father giving us an inspired promise or a heavenly teaser? How you answer the question says much about how you live your life.
