KENOSIS

Philippians 2:6-8—Who, being in very nature God, did not consider equality with God something to be grasped, but made Himself nothing, taking the very nature of a servant, being made in human likeness. And being found in appearance as a man, He humbled Himself and became obedient to death—even death on a cross!

Can You See?

When He looked down from above, tell me what He felt

For One so strong and mighty lying helpless as a babe?

While Mary held her baby boy, God was holding earth.

Joseph fed his newborn son the One Who’d be our Bread.

Can you see that Love believed enough to be our grace!

Can you see inside your heart that Jesus took your place?

Can you know if angels came and shepherds saw the sight

That heaven opened up its doors so you would see His Light?

This Child born one awesome night, a gift unwrapped in joy

Became a Man of Sorrows for every girl and boy.

Every year He lived as man, the Son in suffering grew

Until He died for broken hearts and rose to make them new.

Now the stars hang silently, and centuries have gone.

And still across the land are those who’ve never heard His song.

Do you see that Love believed enough to be our grace!

Do you see inside your heart that Jesus took your place?

Do you know if angels came and shepherds saw the sight

That heaven opened up its doors so you would see His Light?

Inspiration

We declare that the one selfsame Christ, only begotten Son and Lord, must be acknowledged in two natures, without any co-mingling, or change or division or separation, that the distinction between their natures is in no way removed by their union, but rather, that the specific character of each nature is preserved, and they are united in one person and one hypostasis.—Portion of the Creed of Chalcedon 451 A.D. (This Creed was formulated by the Church to defend the full humanity and divinity of Christ against several additional heresies that denied one or the other natures.)
