NEW TESTAMENT

2 Timothy 3:14,15—But as for you, continue in what you have learned and have become convinced of, because you know those from whom you learned it, and how from infancy you have known the holy Scriptures, which are able to make you wise for salvation through faith in Christ Jesus.

The Bible is not a hammer! It is a divine laser. The former pounds and bruises while the latter precisely penetrates. When we take the Word and attempt to force truth upon a skeptic we don’t witness inspiration we view bound paper misapplied. This is folly. It is like a surgeon opening up a patient with a chain saw! God’s Word does not need inertia produced by the velocity of our swing. If we desire to be proficient in understanding Scripture we must wisely appreciate what Scripture is and how it works. It is the Holy Spirit’s sword—Eph. 6:17. Hebrews 4:12 states, “For the word of God is living and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart.” Ever try to work a laser? Lasers are used when precision is required. The Holy Spirit is the only One capable of precise work. Only He can see into the depths of a person’s heart. If we desire to use the word we want the Holy Spirit to guide us in its application!

Inspiration

The New Testament is not written to prove that Jesus Christ is God Incarnate; the New Testament does not prove anything; it simply confirms the faith of those who believe beforehand. Christian evidences don’t amount to anything; you can’t convince a man against his will.—Oswald Chambers in The Shadow of an Agony
