SIGHT

Luke 18:41—“What do you want Me to do for you?” “Lord, I want to see,” he replied. Jesus said to him, “Receive your sight; your faith has healed you.”

I was driving home yesterday when the woman in front of me decided to pull into my lane. Evidently I was in her blind spot. I slammed on the brakes while at the same time maneuvering as quickly as possible to get around her car. Somehow we avoiding colliding and both continued on our way. It would have been easy to get angry (it happened too fast to honk!), and to mutter about incompetent drivers but why? I know what it’s like not to see someone in the other lane and just miss kissing metal! The antidote to that simple driving mistake is to add an extra mirror, or take the time to turn my head and look for another vehicle.

Did you ever stop to consider that we all drive through life with blind spots? We cannot see spiritual issues clearly because of sin in our nature. Furthermore, we sense an inner emptiness that nothing can fill. That is because blind spots come from dark holes. When we recognize with remorse our flaws (which takes humility), and choose to believe that only Jesus Christ can save we who have sinned, the first thing He does is fill that dark hole in our heart by sending the Holy Spirit. He in turn brings us peace and meaning in life. Therefore the antidote to spiritual blind spots is to rely on the Holy Spirit. The more we trust Him to guide us, the more aware we are of what previously we could not see—let alone understand.
