MEMORY

Have you ever walked up to someone, introduced yourself, listened to the other person’s name and then promptly forgotten it? I hate it when that happens! Kevin Trudeau has a course called Mega Memory. I listened to his tapes during my thirteen hour drive to Fort Hunter Liggett, California. My intent was to improve my memory (especially for names), so I listened to the tapes I’d heard before but forgotten.

Meditation

Psalm 77:11-13—I will remember the deeds of the Lord; yes, I will remember Your miracles of long ago. I will meditate on all Your works and consider all Your mighty deeds. Your ways, O God, are holy. What God is so great as our God?

I’m glad that God has given us a memory. While I may not do well in recalling the names of new faces, let alone the techniques for improving memory, it is not hard to remember the incredible things God has done to give my life meaning and purpose. I like what Jeduthun shares in Psalm 77. I will remember the deeds of the Lord.” Memory focused on God:

· Reminds me that I serve One Who ceaselessly works on the behalf of His children

· Makes the mundane pale as the reality of miracles past point towards a mouth-watering future

· Calls for a holy contemplation, a meditation in what God does not what I do

· Defines greatness for what it really is—God loving His children with a love through actions that surpasses understanding

A God-deficient memory :

· Leads to despair

· Cannot answer “so what?”

If we fail to remember God, we should not be surprised if the stress of daily living in a sin-infected world seems at times overwhelming. Don’t let today’s battles become bigger than your God. What He did for your yesterdays should fill you with hope for both today and tomorrow! Remember and believe! Recall His deeds and say, “He is able!” Something to think about . . . in reveration!

Inspiration

Memory is a spiritual thing and exists in the heart; the brain recalls more or less clearly what the heart remembers.—Oswald Chambers in Biblical Psychology
