PERSPECTIVE

Philippians 3:8—What is more, I consider everything a loss compared to the surpassing greatness of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord, for whose sake I have lost all things. I consider them rubbish, that I may gain Christ.

Drafting is such an amazing art. I find it fascinating how engineers depict buildings and objects through the skillful drawing of lines and shading areas. Did you know that perspective is defined in the American Heritage Dictionary as: The technique of representing three-dimensional objects and depth relationships on a two-dimensional surface.

Could it be that spiritual perspective is the technique of representing an invisible God and the depth relationship of His attributes on the sin-flattened plain of mortal earth? When we love our enemies we reveal God! When we demonstrate patience through adversity our lives portray a supernatural dimension. The linear two-dimensioned relationship between humans becomes a three-dimensional triangle when God is involved.

Perspective also means A mental view or outlook.” When adversity comes, I want to know Jesus Who weathered hostility and was murdered. When temptation raises its stormy head I want to know Christ Who Himself suffered through temptation (Hebrews 2:18). When times are good, I want to know my Father and thank Him for what I have. When I am confused I want to know the omniscient One. When I am weak I want to be close to the Almighty. When I am joyful I want to worship my Savior! When I am honored I want to glorify the Lord Who made me. Whether busy or inactive, tired or energetic, thoughtful or amused, balanced or dizzy, sick or healthy, fulfilled or discouraged, driven or grounded, criticized or praised, popular or opposed, filled or empty—I want to know God. How I view life is proportional to how well I know life’s Creator.

O God, stoke the passion to know You! Replace the selfish lens that see only me and cover them with Songlasses, those glorious lens that reveal You, the epitome of AWESOME!

The full flood of my life is not in bodily health, not in external happenings, not in seeing God’s work succeed, but in the perfect understanding of God, and in the communion with Him that Jesus Himself had.—Oswald Chambers in My Utmost For His Highest
