John 6:27-29—Do not work for food that spoils, but for food that endures to eternal life, which the Son of Man will give you. On Him God the Father has placed His seal of approval. Then they asked Him, “What must we do to do the works God requires?” Jesus answered, “The work of God is this: to believe in the One He has sent.”
Is there anything mankind cannot accomplish?. Pick up a newspaper and you are likely to find an advertisement for a seminar hosted by a professional motivator who will take your life to new dimensions with his or her "can’t lose" methods. Christianity is not immune from this phenomenon. The hot message today revolves around "You can do it—and we’ll show you how!" There is a subtle danger to this approach.. The how or what takes priority over the Who!
Are we raising an army of saints who can only operate when they are inspired? Are we recruiting an army of saints who move in response to the cause? Are we encouraging an army of saints who volunteer because they like the style and format of their leaders? Are we building an army of saints who must be stroked and coddled to volunteer because they are after all so busy? These armies will not survive the first hard campaign that comes their way! God is not in the habit of raising up special interest groups. He is not so concerned with the cause, the methods, or needs. His concern is that we follow after Him. Is not our work to build a strong personal relationship with Jesus Christ? Find a Christian who is steadfastly resolute about knowing Christ and you will discover a person God is using for His kingdom. Is there any reason why you and I should not be such a disciple?
