WALK

John 8:12—When Jesus spoke again to the people, He said, "I am the light of the world. Whoever follows Me will never walk in darkness, but will have the light of life."

The chance of lighting a candle with a match outside on a fall day in Oregon is equivalent to riding a bicycle backwards. If the wind doesn’t blow out the flame there are plenty of raindrops to do the job! Those who are without Christ and live in their own strength are like such candles. Sure, they will give off light and fragrance, but for how long and to what effect and final outcome?

Christians are like lamps. Christ is the electricity that produces the light. The light switch is our will. Whether we live in darkness or light depends on the position of our switch. Dark lamps don’t illuminate anything. Are you walking in darkness or are you walking in the light that comes in following Christ? Lamps that glow become the irrefragable evidence that God exists and makes a difference in our lives. Is your switch off or on?

We are not told to walk in the light of conscience or of a sense of duty, but to walk in the light as God is in the light.
