COVENANT

Psalms 119:50—My comfort in my suffering is this: Your promise preserves my life.

We live in an age of broken words. I once participated in a wedding for a man entering his third marriage to a woman who had never married before. I had the opportunity to share with this couple about a certainty that is infinitely greater than the likelihood that their marriage will last. It is the certainty that God has made an awesome promise to us. "Believe in the Lord Jesus Christ and you will be saved."—Acts 16:31.

I pray this couple will hear the notes of a different wedding song, the melody of God's voice inviting them to receive Him in their hearts. When we stand for the first time with Him at the altar of faith, He shares a promise of salvation that will never be broken! He will not divorce us. Though we suffer the indignity of broken dreams and shattered promises, His Word bursts through the darkness in permanent brilliance proclaiming, "As for God, His way is perfect; the word of the Lord is flawless. He is a shield for all who take refuge in Him."-2 Samuel 22:
