BIBLE -- DIVINE GUIDANCE

Deuteronomy 8:11—Observe the commands of the Lord your God, walking in His ways and revering Him.

How often do you encounter times when you desperately need a word from the Lord so as to know what to do? There is not a day, a week that goes by where I do not seek to know the Lord’s will. Where I go wrong is when I grow impatient, tired of waiting on God to give guidance. Do you ever read God’s Word and feel like you are reading the obituaries? Passages seem dead and void of relevance and you wonder what is wrong.

It is precisely when we least feel like studying the Bible that we need the most to be immersed in it. God always leads. He just doesn’t necessarily reveal His will in accordance with our time schedule. If I will be patient—He will reveal His perfect plan.

It is easy to lead without waiting for the Lord. We can run on hunches, counsel and our own experience. We can dance to the beat of our own enthusiasm. King Saul did this and it cost him his throne. How much better it is to prepare our hearts to listen. God comes along and stuns us with some profound truth we knew but didn't understand! This is the work of the Holy Spirit who gives us eyes to see what God already ordained. Is there an hour that goes by when we do not need our Lord to lead us? Is there a day when we should not be found meditating on His sacred Scripture?

Inspiration

Divine guidance by the Word indicates a profound and personal preparation of heart. God's sayings are sealed to every soul until they are opened by the indwelling Spirit of God.—Oswald Chambers in Christian Disciplines
